I haven’t been doing much tumblr…ing lately. Much of it is because the tumblr rage is reblogging pictures now. I miss the days where everyone wrote about stuff, even me.
With this semester ending so soon, I’m thinking about graduation more and more. Although it isn’t happening for me for another…
Don’t get discouraged, and don’t ever believe the “no jobs for English majors” myth. You were trained to criticize/analyze and, of course, write and build solid arguments—skills incredibly useful in the workplace, though more than often overlooked.
If you want to write, you will write. :) An actual blog is an awesome start; many employers for writing positions actually ask for a URL when you apply. You should also be on the lookout for freelance opportunities, and believe it or not, there are tons! (check out craigslist under gigs..I always try and catch some of those writing gigs, but be weary. It’s craigslist after all) Granted, you may not write about what you want to or write in your own “voice,” but it’s a good way to build a portfolio.
Best of luck to you, just thought I’d share from one English major to another. :)
